If you need surgical treatment, this will be carried out at the Freeman Hospital. This might include endoscopic surgery or tumour surgery and includes reconstructive procedures.
You will receive radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care.
Who will you meet?
You will be cared for by a multi-specialist team of staff including ENT surgeons, oral & maxillofacial surgeons and cancer specialists. In addition, we work closely with restorative dentistry, plastic surgery and neurosurgery.
You will also receive support from speech and language therapists, dieticians and the palliative care team.
We also have a Macmillan Head and Neck Nurse who will be able to offer you support.
Rehabilitation
Our goal is to help you lead as normal a life as possible. Rehabilitation is a key part of your treatment plan from the very earliest stages.
Speech therapists can help help retrain your voice, breathing and swallowing. If you have laryngectomy, a surgical voice restoration service will be offered.
Support
We have strong links to the local laryngectomy support group. You can contact them at: talk.nela@blueyonder.co.uk
