Dr Muhammad Shahid Iqbal (MBBS, MRCPI, FRCR, PG Cert Clin Res) is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at the Freeman Hospital’s Northern Centre for Cancer Care.
Areas of sub-specialisation are the non-surgical management of Head and Neck and Thyroid cancers involving radiotherapy, radioiodine and systemic treatments.
Prior to his appointment as a Consultant, he completed Clinical Oncology training in the North East.
At the Northern Centre for Cancer Care, Dr Iqbal is a core member of the Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT) team. Since 2020, he has served as a Clinical Lead for the Radiotherapy Service.
He also holds the position of Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Newcastle University. He has authored a number of publications, presented in national/international conferences, and maintains a keen interest in clinical research and trials.
He also has an interest in education and was examiner of The Royal College of Radiologists final FRCR Examination Board for part A (SBA) from 2013 to 2017. He has been a member of The Royal College of Radiologists Clinical Oncology Professional Learning and Development Sub-Committee (2017 – 2022) and also serves as assistant editor of the Royal College Clinical Oncology journal.
