Our young patients include thousands of local children from across the North East and Cumbria. In addition, patients travel with their families across the country to benefit from our specialist services.
The hospital also has it own accident and emergency department, whilst it also houses a number of specialist services such as, children’s allergy, respiratory and orthopaedics.
Our children and young people’s cancer service cares for children with all types of cancer. It also has its own dedicated space for young people.
The bone marrow transplant unit is one of only two in the UK and Ireland to treat children with Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID).
Being in hospital can be daunting and worrying experience for children and young people. The Great North Children’s Hospital is different from a traditional hospital.
Our hospital
All of our clinical areas are bright and welcoming. We want our young patients and their families to have the best experience possible. Alongside this, we also have a 50 seat cinema where children can relax and watch the latest blockbusters.
