Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia
This dedicated clinic focusses on both B and T cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
Bleeding disorders
We run a number of dedicated bleeding disorder clinics within the region’s Comprehensive Care Centre for haemophilia. We look after patients with haemophilia, von Willebrand disease, platelet function disorders as well as other rare acquired and inherited bleeding disorders..
Bone marrow failure
Bone marrow failure encompasses mainly patients with acute leukaemia, aplastic anaemia and myelodysplasia along with other disorders which result in impaired bone marrow function. We have a dedicated BMF Clinic.
CAR T-cell service
Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy involves reprogramming patient’s own T cells to fight cancer. It is a highly specialist type of therapy offered to patients with haematological malignancy.
Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia
This clinic is dedicated to patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia but we also see patients with other rarer forms of chronic leukaemia such as hairy cell leukaemia and T cell leukaemias.
Histiocytosis
These are a rare group of disorders affecting macrophages and histiocytes which are cells of the immune system.
Immunodeficiency
We work with colleagues in immunology to review adult patients with primary immunodeficiencies to provide a supra-regional assessment service for bone marrow transplant assessment.
Immuno-haematology
In this clinic we care for patients with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) and immune-mediated haemolytic anaemias.
Lymphoma
Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymph glands. We see patients with all types of lymphoma in our clinic and offer both day case and in patient chemotherapy options when required.
Myeloma
Myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells (a kind of white blood cell) which are part of the immune system. In our myeloma clinic we see and treat a number of different plasma cell cancers including myeloma, plasmacytoma and amyloidosis.
Myeloproliferative neoplasms
These conditions result in blood counts being too high. We specialise in chronic myeloid leukaemia, essential thrombocytosis, polycythaemia vera and myelofibrosis. We also see patients with rarer disorders such as mastocytosis and eosinophilia. We also coordinate venesection from this clinic.
Obstetric haematology
Along with obstetricians we run a dedicated obstetric haematology service, seeing patients with haematological conditions and those on anticoagulation.
Paediatric haematology
There is a dedicated paediatric team who run a range of clinics in addition to supporting the laboratory diagnosis of both malignant and non-malignant paediatric haematology disorders.
Red cell disorders
We offer a dedicated clinic for patients with red cell disorders. This includes patients with sickle cell diseases and other haemoglobinopathies as well as thalassaemia and other rare anaemias.
Stem cell/bone marrow transplant
This involves infusing stem cells collected from the patient or a donor. We perform bone marrow transplants for a wide range of malignant and non-malignant conditions.
Thrombosis
We run two medical thrombosis clinics per week. One is dedicated to the care of patients with pulmonary embolism and is a joint clinic with colleagues from respiratory medicine. The other is a general thrombosis clinic mainly caring for patients with deep vein thrombosis and other rarer thrombotic disorders.
