Undergraduate medical education
The undergraduate medical education team are responsible for all medical education on the MBBS programme at Newcastle Hospitals for medical students in supporting clinical experience in Year 1 and 2 students as well as providing clinical placements for students in Years 3, 4 & 5. The Undergraduate Team at Newcastle Hospitals work alongside Newcastle University to deliver comprehensive clinical skills and training whilst supporting students through their studies, exams as well as providing pastoral support and professional development.
In 2023 the Trust opened The Eldon Court Education Centre, a new state of the art facility within the City Centre. The 2023 renovation of the Freeman Education Centre alongside the simulation centre at the RVI further compliment this new facility . All three sites offer excellent classroom, simulation and study spaces, including operating theatre and ward replicas, to support teaching, learning and examinations.
The MBBS programme at Newcastle University has been designed to include a greater focus on integrated teaching within the clinical environment, with a move towards longitudinal assistantships . As such, our responsibility to include Undergraduate Medical Students within our clinical teams and everyday activities has become central to our combined success.
Continued professional development of trainers
We support continuous learning for all staff and provide a CPD framework and programme of internal and external training opportunities for trainers to maintain and evolve innovative teaching methods incorporating education into all that we do. The CPD programme can be found on the MedEd intranet webpage.
