All maternity services at the RVI are based together in the Leazes Wing.
If you need urgent maternity care
If you are in labour or have an urgent pregnancy concern, there are maternity parking bays outside the Leazes Wing entrance on Richardson Road. These bays are reserved for women who are in labour or need emergency maternity care. Let the maternity reception team know if you have parked in one of these bays. These parking spaces are regularly checked and should only be used for women in labour or needing urgent maternity care. Please do not use them for planned appointments.
The Maternity Assessment Unit is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can call 0191 282 5748 if you are worried about yourself or your baby.
Parking for antenatal appointments and visitors
If you are coming for a planned antenatal appointment, ultrasound scan, clinic visit, or you are visiting someone in the maternity unit, please use the standard patient and visitor car parks at the RVI.
The main patient and visitor car parks which are all pay on exit and located at:
- Victoria Multi-Storey car park, accessed from Queen Victoria Road. Direct access to the main hospital from the car park is on level 2 and then you can access Leazes Wing once in the hospital via level 3. .
- New Victoria Wing surface car park, located next to the New Victoria Wing Main Entrance and access is from Queen Victoria Road.
- Dental Hospital car park, located next door to Leazes Wing and accessed from Richardson Road
- Leazes Park (Council managed car park) on Richardson Road opposite the RVI’s Leazes Wing.
All of these car parks are a short walk from the Leazes Wing maternity services.
The RVI can be very busy, so please leave plenty of time to find a parking space and walk to your appointment. You may experience queues while waiting for a space.
If you need to stay at the hospital for more than four hours, ask your ward or department about a long-stay parking concession before you leave.
