Over a quarter of a million people in the UK need Changing Places facilities.
People with profound and multiple learning disabilities, as well people with other physical disabilities such as spinal injuries, muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis, often need extra equipment and space to allow them to use toilets safely and comfortably. These needs are met by Changing Places toilets.
We now have facilities at both the Freeman Hospital and the Royal Victoria Infirmary, which both feature a height-adjustable adult changing bed, an electronic ceiling hoist, height adjustable sink, peninsular toilet, shower, non-slip floor and privacy screen.
How to access
Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI)
- The facility is located on level three of Leazes Wing.
Freeman Hospital
- The facility is opposite the main reception.
You can access the Changing Places facilities using a radar key. Keys are also kept at the main reception at the Freeman Hospital and Leazes Wing reception at the RVI.
