Our staff make this organisation, and investing in people is important to us.
We work hard to create a positive and supportive working environment, with access to high quality training and development, modern technology, equipment and facilities.
We are committed to offering:
- a positive, listening culture and working environment
- access to a wide range of staff health and wellbeing support, designed around colleagues
- high quality training and career progression.
With over 350 different careers, the NHS can provide rewarding and fulfilling work, wherever your skills and interests lie.

Staff benefits and staff social club
Our staff social club has over 8,000 members, with highlights including a monthly lottery, discounted tickets for events (including local music and theatre), day trips, nights away, parties and days out for the family. Membership also allows access to our on-site fitness centres.
Staff can also access an exclusive range of discounts and offers through our Benefits Everyone scheme.
Health and wellbeing

Our in-house occupational health service offers support across a range of areas such as mental health, physiotherapy and vaccinations.
We also have a wide range of ‘self-referral’ services focussed on staff health, encouraging physical health and providing different types of support for mental wellbeing.
Staff recognition
Our annual staff awards, Celebrating Excellence, recognise exceptional achievements and innovative approaches to providing the best possible care and services.
In addition, our quarterly People at our Heart awards allow us to recognise, celebrate and thank staff who really enhance patient experience – each year we receive over 350 nominations from patient, carers and families who use our services.
And our long service awards acknowledge the hard work of staff who have been with Newcastle Hospitals for 25, 35 and even 45 years.
Staff networks
Our staff networks support members of staff in their working lives and promote awareness of equality and inclusion within the organisation. We have five staff networks which support LGBTQ+, black and minority ethnic colleagues, women, staff with disabilities and those with a current or previous connection to the armed forces.
