At Free Spirits Nursery we provide the highest quality childcare and education in a safe and stimulating environment, where fun and friendship come first.
We want to give children the opportunity to develop socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually, to help them reach their full potential whilst having the best possible time.
Our well balanced programme of play and educational activities ensure children receive a broad and balanced curriculum. Activities are appropriate for their age and stage of development.
Keeping children as safe as possible
All nursery staff are subject to full employment checks, including DBS, in accordance with NHS standards. All staff have yearly appraisal and mandatory training updates.

Our location
The nursery is located in the grounds of the Freeman Hospital opposite the Northern Centre for Cancer Care and Renal Centre. Car parking is available at the nursery for drop-off and pick-up.
Ofsted rating
The nursery is regulated by OFSTED Office for Standards in Education and our latest inspection took place in January 2026.
Our nursery was rated as operating to a ‘strong standard’ across all areas.
The inspectors said:
Staff adapt their approaches to meet the needs of children at different stages of development, ensuring that strategies are closely matched to each child. There is a calm and welcoming atmosphere in the nursery.
Children build positive relationships with both staff and each other, helping them feel safe and secure.
Leaders have worked hard to ensure that the curriculum is inclusive and of a high quality…and have a strong understanding of children's needs.
