The haemodialysis clinic specialises in the renal replacement therapy haemodialysis in patients with end stage kidney disease.
You may attend hospital on average three times each week for haemodialysis treatment. It is important for you to attend regular review appointments to discuss:
- General health
- Any new and ongoing problems related to dialysis
- Kidney transplant status.
We may perform a physical examination and review your medicines.
You will have monthly blood tests and using these results we will calculate your ‘dialysis adequacy’. This is a measure of the quality of the haemodialysis treatment.
Based on these monthly results, we may change the dialysis prescription and this can include alterations to the length of each session.
Our specialist renal dietitians will carry out a monthly review. We will liaise with other specialties and members of the renal team can.
To minimise the number of hospital appointments you have, appointments are usually booked for a dialysis day.
We have ‘urgent’ appointments available if you need to be seen before your next scheduled appointment.
What you can expect
We will review your dialysis records and blood results.
Please bring a list of your medicines with you. We will send a detailed letter to your GP and we will ask you if you would like a copy for your records.
