Oesophageal Physiology
Oesophageal physiology testing helps investigate swallowing disorders, reflux symptoms and conditions affecting the movement of food through the oesophagus
Our service provides:
- High-resolution oesophageal manometry
- Ambulatory reflux monitoring (pH-impedance studies)
- Wireless reflux monitoring (Bravo™)
These investigations help diagnose conditions such as achalasia, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and other oesophageal motility disorders.
Anorectal Physiology
Anorectal physiology testing assesses the function and structure of the anal canal and rectum. These investigations help determine the cause of symptoms such as faecal incontinence, constipation and bowel emptying disorders
Investigations may include:
- Digital rectal examination
- Anorectal manometry
- Rectal sensory testing
- Balloon expulsion testing
- Endoanal ultrasound
Not every patient requires all investigations. The tests performed will depend on individual symptoms and the reason for referral.
For detailed information about individual procedures, preparation requirements and what to expect during your appointment, please refer to the relevant patient information leaflets.
