Newcastle Hospitals’ infectious diseases experts have been at the forefront of the treatment and research for COVID19 since we admitted and cared for the first patients known to have the virus at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) early last year.
Since then, our specialists have influenced the development of new tests and treatments and we are delighted to be able to offer the opportunity for three enthusiastic Band 5 nurses to help us launch a landmark, innovative monoclonal antibody service for the North East and North Cumbria.
Based in the outpatient clinic on the Infectious Diseases Ward 19 at the RVI, you will deliver infusions of neutralising monoclonal antibodies to patients at risk of being severely affected by COVID19, within 72 hours of them receiving a positive PCR test result.
This ground-breaking treatment radically improves clinical outcomes for these patients preventing long term adverse effects and even death, as well as reducing the need for admission to hospital.
We are looking for self-motivated nursing professionals who identify with our vision and values, and are excited at the prospect of being involved in establishing a unique and a potentially life-changing service for the Region.
In return, you will be supported and guided by senior colleagues to learn a wide range of new skills and techniques to facilitate the co-ordination and delivery of care for patients. This will include the preparation and provision of these pioneering infusions, as well as post-treatment observation.
As an outpatient service, working hours will predominantly be Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm, and there is potential for weekend work if deemed necessary to meet service needs.
