Hello, my name is Angelo Augugliaro and I am a Nurse Specialist within the Trust’s Digital Health Team.
My role focuses on bridging the gap between clinical practice and digital technology. Drawing on my background in peri-operative care and critical care, I work closely with both clinical and technical colleagues to develop digital solutions that support frontline staff and improve patient care.
I am currently involved in several projects across the Trust, including the digitisation of Complex Pain Management documentation, supporting the transition of Genetics services from a bespoke system into eRecord, and exploring improvements to clinical handover processes.
I am particularly passionate about engaging with frontline colleagues. I believe that listening to the staff who use digital systems every day is essential to successful optimisation, development and continuous improvement. By combining clinical experience with a growing understanding of digital systems and technology, I aim to help create solutions that give valuable time back to staff and support safer, more effective care.
My approach to digital health is driven by curiosity and a desire to improve. I enjoy examining how systems are used in practice, identifying opportunities to simplify processes and finding more efficient ways to deliver what clinicians need. One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is understanding the complexities of eRecord and sharing practical knowledge that helps colleagues use it more effectively in their daily work.
My journey into digital health
I began my nursing career in Italy, qualifying as a Scrub Nurse and working within General Emergency Theatres. Through a rotational programme, I gained experience across the operating department before moving into a Major Trauma Centre, where I worked as a scrub nurse in orthopaedic, trauma and spinal theatres.
Working in these busy and demanding environments gave me valuable experience of high-pressure clinical decision-making, teamwork and maintaining high standards of patient care. I later progressed into a Charge Nurse role within Neuroradiology Theatres, leading multidisciplinary teams and further developing my leadership, communication and organisational skills in a fast-paced clinical setting.
My introduction to Digital Health came through a secondment opportunity that allowed me to apply my clinical experience in a different way. During this time, I developed a strong interest in digital transformation and the role technology can play in supporting staff and improving healthcare delivery. This experience led to my appointment as a permanent member of the Digital Health Team.
Today, I bring together my clinical background and interest in technology to help shape digital systems that work for the people using them. I am motivated by the opportunity to improve the experience of both patients and staff, whether by reducing administrative burden, improving how information is recorded and shared, or helping teams make better use of digital tools.
As digital healthcare continues to evolve, I believe it is important to make health information more accessible for patients while ensuring digital systems enable staff to deliver care more efficiently. Technology should simplify processes, improve access to information and support better decision-making, allowing clinicians to spend more time focused on patient care.
