Ward/Area Covered

  • PICU, Ward 9 (Paediatric surgery), Ward 10 (Paediatric trauma and orthopaedics), Ward 11 (Paediatric burns and plastics), Ward 1b (Paediatric neuro).
  • We work with rehabilitation teams, nursing teams, medical teams, hospital-based charities, social care, and education to support the best outcome for paediatric major trauma patients.

Conditions Covered

  • The RVI is one of 12 combined adult and paediatric Major Trauma Centre (MTC)’s in the country and cares for children and young people from across the region.
  • We offer a holistic service to children and young people (0-16 years) who have suffered major trauma injuries. This includes traumatic brain injury, organ injury, significant orthopaedic injury and polytrauma.
  • Children and young people are supported throughout their trauma journey; from PICU and onto the ward, returning home, into education and back to their usual activities wherever possible
