The North East Assisted Ventilation Service (NEAVS) cares for people across the region who need long-term support with breathing or coughing.
The service provides long-term ventilation support in hospital and the community. The service supports patients to lead as normal life as possible at home.
Ventilation support
We see patients who have:
- Duchenne muscular dystrophy
- Myotonic dystrophy
- A spinal cord injury
- Motor neurone disease
In addition to this, you might also be cared for by team if you have:
- Central sleep apnoea
- Obstructive sleep apnoea/obesity
- Hypoventilation syndrome
- COPD and chest wall deformities.
Our clinics and services
We can help with ventilators, cough assistance, and long-term tracheostomy for ventilatory support.
The specialist children’s ventilation service host a transition clinic for young adults whose care is being taken over by adult services.
We also provide a cough and secretion management service to the North East and Cumbria.
We run clinics at:
- James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough
- Blyth Community Hospital in Northumberland
- Penrith Community Hospital.
