How to find us

Newcastle Westgate Cataract Centre (NWCC) is based on the Campus for Ageing and Vitality site off Westgate Road near the Brighton Grove entrance.

By rail

The nearest Metro station it the Campus for Ageing and Vitality is Central Station. You can plan your journey on their website.  

From Central Station, you will need to get a bus to Westgate road. Further information about public transport can be found on the Nexus website.

Access to the Campus for Ageing and Vitality is easy with high-speed rail links directly to Newcastle’s Central station for more information on times and fares visit the LNER website.

By bus

From Newcastle’s Haymarket, take bus number 47 to CAV. Every 30 minutes, Monday to Friday. Get the number 47 timetable from the Arriva website .

A number of bus services call outside the Campus for Ageing and Vitality (NE4 6BE) from across the city. For information about public transport:

There is also a shuttle bus that links the Campus for Ageing and Vitality with the RVI, the Haymarket Bus Station and Gosforth (Newcastle Great Park). You can find the details of the 46 bus service on the Arriva website .

Park and Ride

Park and Ride is available to get to the hospital:

  • Regent Centre, Gosforth: parking is £1 per day. Bus number 46 calls at Haymarket, RVI Leazes Wing and Campus for Ageing and Vitality

By road

Newcastle is easily accessible if you are driving or prefer to travel by coach with major road routes straight to the centre from both the north (A1) and south (A1M) and from the west (A69).

This means you can get here from Carlisle in under an hour and a half, from Leeds, York and Sheffield in less than 2 hours and from Liverpool, Manchester and Glasgow in 3 hours or less.
