We also are a day of surgery arrival unit for cardiothoracic patients, where they are prepared for their surgery and then transferred to another ward for all aftercare.
Ward 27 at the Freeman Hospital provides care for people requiring treatment for a range of conditions and have come in for intervention/surgery, including:
- Cardiology – Angiogram, angioplasty, pacemaker/defibrillators, ablations and TAVI.
- Respiratory – Treatment for long-term conditions such as asthma and bronchiectasis.
- Cardiothoracic – Heart and lung surgery including coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG), valve repair/replacement and lobectomy.
You will be cared for by several members of staff including doctors, nurses and other support staff.
Please note, we do not allow visitors on this unit.

Location of ward
Ward 27 is based in the Cardiothoracic Centre, which is set to the right of the Freeman Hospital as you look at the front.
Come into the Cardiothoracic Centre and take a right turn round by the reception desk.
Follow the corridor past the Lung Function Department until you see the lift block or stairs on your left.
Take the lift or stairs up to level 3. Turn left out of the lifts or right at the top of the stairs and follow the corridor past theatre reception
Turn left at the end of the corridor until you reach Ward 27, which is straight ahead.
