Dr Manal Elgendy is a consultant medical oncologist at the Freeman Hospital’s Northern Centre for Cancer Care (NCCC), specialising in melanoma and kidney cancer.
Dr Elgendy graduated in 2004 and began her career as an associate lecturer in Egypt, where she completed a Master’s degree in biomedical science with a research focus in cancer biology. After joining the NHS in 2016, she completed her higher specialist training in medical oncology in Newcastle.

Dr Elgendy’s clinical practice involves caring for patients with melanoma and kidney cancer.
Research and quality improvement
Dr Elgendy is actively involved in clinical research in melanoma and kidney cancer. She has led UK multicentre retrospective research in renal cell carcinoma, with her work presented at national and international oncology conferences. She is also the principal investigator for a clinical trial investigating tumour-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy in melanoma.
She has a particular interest in quality improvement and clinical effectiveness and serves as clinical effectiveness lead, supporting initiatives aimed at improving the quality and delivery of patient care.
Medical education
Dr Elgendy has a longstanding interest in teaching and training and holds a postgraduate certificate in medical education. She is involved in teaching and supervising medical students, junior doctors and advanced clinical practitioners (ACPs).
