Helpful checklist

If you are a nurse, midwife or AHP who is new to clinical research, use checklist as a helpful guide to getting your study idea off the ground.

  1. How does it fit with the trust’s or departmental priorities?
  2. Have you discussed the idea with your line manager/team?
  3. Has your line manager given their support?
  4. Have you linked with the NMAHP team?
  5. Have you checked whether there is funding available to support your idea?
  6. Have you read our research support policy?
  7. Have you thought about what training or support you might need?

Equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in research

EDI is really important in research and should be considered at the earliest opportunity when you’re planning your study.

The below guidance and resources provide a helpful starting point to make sure you embed EDI into your research.

Equality and diversity in research guidance

This guidance helps research understand why participation is low in certain groups. It also provides insights into how to best work with groups where participation is low, and suggests practical tips.

UKRI guidance for equality, diversity and inclusion

This guidance outlines principles for promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, with links to useful sources of information and guidance on supporting diverse and inclusive research and innovation.

Research Design Service equality, diversity and inclusion toolkit

This resource has been developed to support researchers to better understand how to embed EDI in research design and to meet the NIHR’s EDI requirements.
