Home > About Newcastle Hospitals > Corporate information > Our 5 year strategy > Our priorities

Our priorities

Our approach to making the organisation stronger and more effective is built around 3 strategic priorities.

Joining up care – working together to give people better, quicker access to effective, quality services

What this means:

  • Easier access to care that works for patients
  • More care closer to home
  • Services that feel co-ordinated and are effective

Advancing care – improving patient care, effectiveness and quality through innovation, research, improvement and education.

What this means:

  • Consistent high quality care every time with fewer avoidable harms
  • Using innovation, research and improvement to deliver better outcomes and experience
  • Developing a skilled, confident workforce with strong clinical leadership
  • Supporting and nurturing our world class specialist services

Supporting great care – supporting colleagues to do their job to the best of their ability with effective leadership, a just and learning culture and modern digital and physical environments.

What this means:

  • Feeling valued, safe and respected
  • Confident, compassionate and accountable leadership
  • Modern, reliable digital systems and physical environments
  • Sustainable and responsible use of our financial and environmental resources

Our strategic priorities will also help us to deliver the 10 Year Health Plan for England which seizes the opportunities provided by new technologies, medicines, and innovations to deliver better care for all patients – wherever they live and whatever they earn – and better value for taxpayers.

They are also aligned with the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board’s strategy and 5-year strategic commissioning plans, so our ambitions support system wide priorities for population health, access, quality, productivity, reducing health inequalities across the region and wider NHS transformation.
