The Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Care and Research Centre offers specialist diagnostic and disease management services for patients with MND. Our service is managed by a consultant neurologist specialising in MND. It includes a team of dedicated MND care coordinators (with backgrounds in nursing and occupational therapy), physiotherapists and a research nurse. The team oversee the management of patients across the North of England, including a dedicated MND care coordinatorin North Cumbria.
The MND care coordinators help to synchronise care, working closely with community, acute and palliative care services to optimise management. They support patients and their caregivers to ensure seamless care and management of MND. There is a dedicated telephone helpline and email (available during normal working hours), in addition to strong links with local voluntary groups and charities.
The Newcastle MND Care and Research Centre works closely with other care centres nationally. Through these partnerships, we are involved in research and drug treatment trials to improve clinical practice and care. This means that patients attending the centre may have an opportunity to try potential new therapies or interventions for their condition. Our patients are often amongst the first to benefit from ground-breaking new treatments.
