Long-term Ventilation

Ward/Area Covered

  • The long-term ventilation team work alongside the multi-disciplinary team to provide inpatient, clinic and community care. The team is a regional service and run outreach clinics at James Cook University Hospital and Carlisle.

Conditions Covered

  • The team look after children from new-born through to 18 years old who require ventilatory support, either with overnight mask ventilation or with tracheostomies who are dependent on ventilation 24 hours a day.
  • The team support patients who have specific chest physiotherapy needs and children who require high flow nasal cannula oxygen at home.
  • The range of patient conditions that are managed include those with obstructive sleep apnoea, neuro muscular conditions, neuro disability, cardiac and complex airways.
