NMAHP Researcher Development Institute Chief Nurse Senior Research Fellowship Opportunity & Chief Nurse Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship Opportunity

This fellowship is offered to individual nurse, midwife or AHP (NMAHPs) to undertake a research project alongside identified development opportunities. 

It will fund two days per week of your clinical time over a 12-month period to enable an NMAHP to undertake a research project alongside identified development opportunities.

The Chief Nurse Post-doc fellowship is offered to NMAHPs who have already completed a PhD or professional doctorate. 

It will fund two days per week of your clinical time over a 12-month period to enable you to undertake a research project alongside identified development opportunities.

The Chief Nurse Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship will support a stand-alone research project that clearly aligns to the trust strategy and/or the NMAHP strategy. In addition, there will be bespoke development opportunities identified in partnership with the appointable candidate.

Mentorship and supervision in relation to research methods, study delivery and development opportunities, including any signposting you may need will be provided by Dr Linda Tinkler and Professor Annette Hand, with additional support from the wider senior NMAHP leadership team.

We now offer a small pot of funding, in addition to the salary backfill, to fund activities in support of your project or your research development during the fellowship. This might include patient and public engagement expenses, training courses, or conferences.

• Support and mentorship from Newcastle Health Research Partnership, the Newcastle Academic Health Sciences Centre (AHSC), and the Newcastle Clinical Skills Academy to enable you to identify appropriate development opportunities, build networks, draw on perspectives beyond your current role and plan for your future career.
• Information about the National Institute for Health and Social Care Research (NIHR) and the NHS research landscape related to funding and development opportunities.
• Introductions to a range of resources available to support research and leadership including accessing local and regional training opportunities.
• Peer support through participation at regular meetings to discuss research progress, experiences and needs.
• Opportunities to support other NMAHP research related initiatives currently in development as part of our flagship charitably funded NMAHP Researcher Development Institute.

What we would like to see from you in return:

• Successful completion of the research project within the confines of the 12-month period.
• A written report for the organisation highlighting key themes from the work.
• Preparation for a journal article and abstract submission to share the project outputs and your own development as a result of the fellowship.
• Clear and demonstrable progress against a bespoke development plan as identified at the outset of the fellowship and supported by our Joint Clinical Academic Professor of Nursing.
• Visibility as a role model, championing research across the trust.
• A developed plan for your next steps post fellowship.

• You must be employed by The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
• You must have completed a PhD or Professional Doctorate if applying for the Chief Nurse Post-Doctoral fellowship
