Alison is the nurse consultant within the regional North East Assisted Ventilation Service and has worked within the long term ventilation service for the last 25 years.
She represents nursing on a number of groups. She has recently completed her tenure in a national role as chair for the British Thoracic Society (BTS) Education and Training Committee and currently sits on the BTS Council.
Alison is the host of the Specialists in Long-term Ventilation at Home (SiLVaH) national network, which is a group of nurses and AHPs working in the field of home mechanical ventilation.
She is also chair of the Home Mechanical Ventilation in Partnership Group (HMViP) – a collaboration of clinicians, patients and carers who have developed a website resource to provide support and education to those receiving and using home mechanical ventilation.
She has been part of the group involved in developing the home mechanical ventilation medical curriculum, and has led on the further development of this to provide a Long-Term Ventilation Educational Framework for multi-professional use.
Alison hosts flight assessment clinics, and recognises the importance of holidays, including airline travel, for this patient group.
She has an MSc in practice development and is an independent prescriber. One of her main interests lies in education. She is passionate about promoting independence and ensuring an enhanced quality of life for her complex patient group.
