Dietetics

Our dietetics team provide specialist, evidence based dietary advice to patients with cystic fibrosis. Optimal nutrition plays a key role in maximising the health of people with cystic fibrosis (CF).

Important advice:

Dietary advice includes

  • General healthy eating and weight management advice
  • Supplementary nutrition (oral supplements and tube feeding)
  • Assessment of Pancreatic Enzyme Replacement Therapy (PERT)
  • Adjustment of fat soluble vitamin therapy
  • Additional support around CF diabetes; transplant; pregnancy; CF liver and renal disease; transition from paediatrics

Where we work

The dietetics team provide a specialist service to cystic fibrosis patients admitted to the RVI as well as those seen in our cystic fibrosis and diabetes outpatient clinics at the RVI and at our outreach clinics at James Cook University Hospital and Cumberland Infirmary

We also review patients by telephone between clinic appointments where extra support is needed between appointments

Who we work with

We are an integral part of the cystic fibrosis team and work closely alongside the cystic fibrosis consultants, specialist nurses, physiotherapists and psychologists as well as our paediatric colleagues to support transition to adult services

We also have close links with other specialist teams such as renal, liver, obstetrics and gastroenterology across the Trust
