A planned estate update beginning early January 2025 will improve our maternity and neonatal facilities. These changes will help us provide the best possible care for families and babies.
The first stage will focus on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). We will make the intensive care bays larger and improve the layout. This will create more space for babies and parents, and help staff provide care more efficiently.
The works will optimise the environment for safety, introduce practical measures, and make it more comfortable for families and staff. The updates will also improve storage and the location of key facilities.
Over the next two years, we will make further updates across the maternity and neonatal estate, and we will also be upgrading digital equipment.
While work is underway, some wards will move temporarily. However, this will not impact patient experience. The maternity and neonatal teams will ensure that the excellent care we deliver for mums and babies continues as normal.
Work will begin on Monday 5 January 2026.
