Newcastle Hospitals outreach nurse specialist in plastic surgery, Tracy Leck, has been awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse by the Queen’s Institute of Community Nursing.
The title of Queen’s Nurse is awarded to nurses who have demonstrated a high level of commitment to patient care and nursing practice. The title also recognises their dedication to ongoing learning, leadership and excellence in healthcare.
As the North East’s only outreach nurse specialist in plastic surgery, Tracy cares for complex plastic surgery patients and has transformed the support available to them after hospital discharge. Acting as the link between hospital and community services, she supports the safe transition of care to ensure patients receive the same high standard of treatment at home.
Tracy is committed to education and professional development, whilst promoting best practice. She is passionate about sharing her skills and knowledge to make sure that the community teams she supports are able to deliver safe and effective care.

Speaking about being awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse, Tracy Leck said: “I am proud and honoured to be recognised as a Queen’s Nurse, especially as one of a small number of acute nurses in the trust to be awarded this achievement.
“I am committed to providing the highest quality of care to patients, whilst sharing my knowledge and passion to educate others. As part of the Queen’s Institute Network, I hope to continue to make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives and support fellow nurses in delivering outstanding care.”
Emma O’Brien, plastics and burns matron at Newcastle Hospitals, said: “It is amazing to see Tracy awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse in recognition of her dedication and passion for delivering outstanding patient care.
“Tracy is a compassionate and caring nurse who has had a positive influence on her colleagues. Her commitment to providing first-class care to her patients is why she is a universal role model to those she meets.”
Tracy received her award and official title at the Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI) awards ceremony held in London at the end of last year.
