As part of the drive to reduce elective waiting lists, NHS trusts are now in the process of contacting patients who have been waiting over 40 weeks*, and do not have an appointment date within the next eight weeks, to consider their options to see if they could be seen sooner at a different hospital. (*some clinical exclusions apply).
At Newcastle Hospitals, we have already started to contact our eligible patients, to see if they still require their appointment and if they would like to transfer to another hospital for treatment.
When we contact you, we will provide full information about the process to follow should you wish to receive treatment at a different hospital. If you have already been contacted and told us you do not wish to transfer you will still receive communication as part of this national campaign.
This does not stop you from changing your mind and you can still choose to move. We are unable to say whether you will be able to be seen any sooner at another hospital and some patients may need to stay with us for specialist treatment.
Please be assured that all eligible patients will be contacted, please do not contact us or your GP practice regarding this offer.
