Newcastle Hospitals is working collaboratively on new and improved diagnostic tests to transform healthcare.
Diagnostics can make screening more convenient and accessible, whilst speeding up diagnosis and shaping the most effective treatment.
Revolutionising these tests means people have more timely and effective treatment and ultimately live longer, healthier lives.
Wayne Elliott, associate director of commercial enterprise at Newcastle Hospitals, said:
We are continuing to drive forwards diagnostic innovation in life sciences and our collaborations are key to finding innovative ways to deliver pioneering diagnostics, including in-vitro tests, digital solutions and high quality, fast, laboratory-based systems.
We’ve entered into partnerships with global healthcare companies who have specific expertise in diagnostics; along with oncology and research.
These partnerships will enable better use of high-quality data, support our research ambitions and facilitate improvements in medical and diagnostic innovation to improve patient outcomes.”
Our collaborations with academia and industry aim to accelerate the development of medical diagnostics in areas including cancer, rare disease, liver disease, cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases, neurodegenerative disease and women’s health.
Newcastle Hospitals is a proud partner of Diagnostics North East, a partnership with Newcastle University which is dedicated to developing the region as a leader in diagnostic development and health innovation.
The annual conference entitled ‘‘Diagnostics in healthcare, 2035 … where will we be, and how do we get there?’ seeks to address the challenges set out in the NHS 10 year plan, and promote a forum for clinicians, academics and industry partners to come together to collaborate, accelerate diagnostic development, and celebrate our region.
A key aspect to success is working in partnership with industry to co-create new innovations. At the event Promptly Health, Solventum and Roche will be presenting their stories of diagnostic development through data partnerships, digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
When: Friday 3 October 2025 at The Catalyst, Newcastle.
