A nurse at Newcastle Hospitals has been shortlisted for Community Diabetes Specialist Nurse of the Year at the Diabetes Nursing Awards 2025.
Demonstrating exceptional dedication to the care and support of individuals living with diabetes in the community, Donna Sutton beat off tough competition to be named a finalist.
Working with community nursing teams, Donna set up training sessions for community staff to upskill their diabetes knowledge. She trained district nurse practitioners to build their confidence in making insulin dose adjustments and to interpret glucose trends so patients could be monitored remotely.
Donna Sutton, lead community diabetes specialist nurse said: “Being shortlisted for this award is an incredible honour, recognising my dedication to improving diabetes care in the community.
“I couldn’t have achieved this without the support of my team, whose collaboration and commitment have been vital in empowering healthcare professionals and enhancing patient outcomes.”
