After a patient has died, family and friends are welcome to visit them in the chapel of rest, either at the Freeman Hospital or at the RVI.
The chaplaincy team can support you on your visit and able to answer any questions you may have about the person’s care.
Making an appointment

Appointments are available:
- Monday – Friday: 10am to 4.30pm (last appointment 4pm)
- Saturday: 12noon to 4.30pm (last appointment 4pm)
- Sunday: 1pm to 4.30pm (last appointment 4pm)
Each appointment is for 30 minutes and we ask that you please arrive on time.
Ensuring the privacy, dignity and respect of the deceased is very important to us.
To request an appointment at the chapel of rest, we will kindly ask you to provide:
- The full name of the deceased
- The deceased’s date of birth
- The deceased’s home address
- What relationship you have with the deceased
- Sometimes you may be asked where the person has died
