Please note: emergency contraception and treatment for urine infections can now be provided by your local pharmacy.
We have urgent treatment centres at the main Royal Victoria Infirmary site and in Cowgate and Byker.
You do not need to book an appointment to use this service.
On arrival, you will need to give your details at reception and wait to be assessed by a member of the team.
Royal Victoria Infirmary urgent treatment centre
Located next to the main emergency department.
The team can help with:
- Minor injuries to hands, limbs and feet.
- Ear, nose and throat problems.
- Minor head, eye or ear problems.
- Infected wounds or bites.
- Sprains and strains.
- Minor burns or scalds.

Open 24 hours a day, every day.

Ponteland Road urgent treatment centre, Cowgate
The centre has x-ray, ultrasound and some heart testing facilities on site and can also do certain blood tests.
The team can help with:
- Minor burns and scalds
- Infected wounds
- Sprains and strains
- Cuts and grazes
- Possible broken bones

8.00am – 10.00pm every day of the year.

- Conjunctivitis/sticky eye.
- Infected wounds or bites.
