Ward 41 is our antenatal ward.
You may need to stay on Ward 41 if you need some short or medium term additional monitoring of your pregnancy that can’t be done as an outpatient. Examples may include:
- Significant signs of premature labour
- Membranes rupturing (waters breaking) before 37+0
- A significant amount of fresh red blood coming from the vagina that requires more observation
- A placenta praevia (a placenta that covers the cervix) in the late stages of pregnancy
- Significantly raised blood pressure that requires medication to control it
Ward 41 has 10 beds;
- two four-bedded bays
- two single cubicles
You will be offered a single cubicle if you need one for a medical reason. These cubicles cannot be paid for. There are toilets attached to the larger bays as well as on the corridor. There are two showers available at all times. You will come to Ward 41 if you need to be seen for day care as part of your ongoing plan of care.
There are also some patient flats that can be used by parents whose babies are on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Students
As a teaching hospital we will often have students from various specialities come to the Ward 34 to gain experience during their studies. They could be:
- Midwives
- Doctors
- Paramedics
- Nurses
- Occupational therapists
The students can be at various stages of their training and may be male or female. They always appreciate your permission to watch or participate in any part of your care as this experience is vital to their training. It is your decision as to whether you will allow any student to participate or watch any or all of your care or whether you would like to decline students altogether.
