Ward 14 is the children’s oncology day unit.
The unit includes outpatient and day care facilities for children and young people up to their 19th birthday, who have been diagnosed with cancer.
The Day Care Unit provides chemotherapy and associated supportive treatments for patients with a range of cancer conditions.
Play facilities
Our play specialists provide play for children and teenagers. This includes normalised play and preparation for central lines, portacath, cannulas and nasal gastric tubes. Using Chemo Ducks and specially adapted dolls, the play specialist aims to reduce anxiety for theatre, MRI, CT, bone scans and radiotherapy. Distraction is available for those patients having procedures in treatment areas.
Their main focus is to provide a child friendly environment and facilitate family centred care.
Location of ward
Ward 14 is on level four of the Great North Children’s Hospital in the New Victoria Wing at the RVI.
