Severe intestinal failure is when the bowel or gut cannot work properly and the gut cannot absorb enough nutrients, water or electrolytes from food.
This unit brings our intestinal failure service together in one place, so both our medical and surgical teams can look after patients on the same ward.
This ward is also supported by dedicated physiotherapists, occupational therapists and pharmacy staff.
If you have an urgent query and you require immediate medical attention, you should contact NHS 111. If you have a medical emergency, you should attend your local emergency department.
Location
The Northern intestinal failure rehabilitation unit is based on ward 11, level 5 at the Freeman Hospital.
