Clinical Educator for NMAHP Research
Hello, my name is Kate Crook and I am a Clinical Educator supporting Newcastle’s Nurses, Midwives, and Allied Health Professionals in all things research.
I was appointed to this role in 2025 and am excited to be supporting the research education for NMAHP colleagues through such innovative and unique programmes and initiatives.
My clinical career began as a Physiotherapist working in Musculoskeletal Outpatients before moving on to an academic career where I taught on the undergraduate physiotherapy programme and across multi-disciplinary modules involving NMAHP undergraduates.
My research interest began as an undergraduate learning about the biopsychosocial model of healthcare and culminated in the completion of a PhD, which looked at the use of psychology in physiotherapy practice. My research interests include qualitative and arts-based research methods, psychology in healthcare education, and the significance of the healthcare professional’s self in the therapeutic relationship.
Being an independent PhD student, I had an unconventional doctoral journey and as a result, my aim is to make research accessible to all members of staff whether that is through an NIHR Fellowship, Quality Improvement project or departmental audit.
