Biography
Mr Philip Dobson is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in trauma, knee reconstruction and joint replacement surgery.
He graduated from Newcastle Medical School in 2007 and completed his orthopaedic training in the North East of England.
Following this he spent 2 years gaining further specialist experience in Australia. He completed fellowships in knee, hip and sports injury surgery at the Brisbane Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre in Queensland, and in Major Trauma at the John Hunter Hospital in New South Wales.
During his training, Mr Dobson conducted research into the effects of ageing and mitochondrial dysfunction on bone biology, earning a PhD in 2018. His work has been published and has received awards in recognition of its quality.
Mr Dobson was appointed as a Consultant at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2023. He is the orthopaedic lead for the NSTC Surgical Skills Training Programme.
