Mr Christopher Lewis is a Consultant Burn, Laser and Reconstructive Surgeon at the Northern Regional Burn Centre based at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, with a special interest in emergency burn care, reconstruction and laser treatment.
Mr Lewis graduated from Imperial College London with Honours and completed a Masters in Burn Care with Distinction at Queen Mary University, London. He was awarded a PhD from the University of Bradford for his work into stem cell biology and wound healing at the Bradford Plastic Surgery & Burns Research Unit.
He completed his plastic surgery training in the North East of England rotating through units in Newcastle, Durham and Middlesbrough. He received sub-specialist training in major burn management, reconstruction and laser during an international fellowship at the world-renowned State Burn Service of Western Australia based at the Fiona Stanley Hospital, Perth.
Mr Lewis has received multiple awards during his surgical training and currently holds a Royal College of Surgeons of England and Blond McIndoe Foundation Grant for ongoing research into burn scarring.
One of two specialist surgeons at the Northern Regional Burn Centre, Mr Lewis provides care for both adults and children with major burn injuries. He works with the multidisciplinary burn team to provide the highest quality care to all patients with burn injuries. He has also provided burn care overseas as part of a charitable mission to Tanzania.
Mr Lewis is the clinical lead for the laser service at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, receiving tertiary referrals from the North East, Yorkshire and Cumbria. Mr Lewis has a specialist interest in using lasers to treat burn scars and is involved in both local and national research studying this area.

Research
Mr Lewis is Clinical Lead for Burn Research at the Northern Regional Burn Centre and currently holds two grants to support ongoing studies. He is the regional research representative for the British Burn Association.
As well as local research projects, Mr Lewis is also actively involved in national multicentre studies to develop the Newcastle research portfolio and provide cutting edge care for his patients.
Mr Lewis has published extensively and written book chapters on emergency burn care and chemical burn management. He regularly peer-reviews articles for a plastic surgery journal.
