Dr Lucy Marie Carter is a Consultant Rheumatologist at Newcastle Hospitals and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Newcastle University. She was appointed in 2024.
Dr Carter graduated from King’s College London School of Medicine. She undertook dual specialty training in Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine between Oxford-Thames Valley and the North East, supplemented with a clinical research fellowship at the University of Leeds.
Special interests
Dr Carter’s clinical and research interests are within the autoimmune connective tissue diseases, with specific focus on systemic lupus erythematosus and systemic sclerosis.
Research
Dr Carter sits on the British Isles Lupus Assessment Group (BILAG) and UK Scleroderma Study Group (UKSSG). She joined the department with an NIHR Senior Clinical and Practitioner Research Award and serves as principal investigator in commercial clinical trials and academic studies.
