Barbara Cardoso is a consultant in Paediatric Cardiology and a Heart Transplant Physician at the Freeman Hospital
She graduated in Medicine from the Coimbra Medical School, Portugal, in 2009, where she also completed a Masters degree in Medicine in the scientific area of Cardiology, with a dissertation on Heart Failure clinics. She completed specialist training in Paediatric Cardiology in Lisbon, Portugal in 2016.
Clinical Work
Barbara’s clinical training and experience span paediatric heart failure, inherited cardiac conditions (ICC), mechanical circulatory support and heart transplantation, with previous roles at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool and Hospital de Santa Marta in Lisbon.
Research
Her research interests focus on paediatric heart failure, cardiomyopathy, mechanical circulatory support and heart transplantation, including failing Fontan physiology, ABO-incompatible transplantation, re-transplantation and donor heart preservation. She has published in international peer-reviewed journals including The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, Canadian Journal of Cardiology and JTCVS Open, and has presented her work at major international meetings including AEPC, ISHLT and World Congress of Paediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery.
