The workforce disability equality standard (WDES) uses a series of data-based metrics to measure and improve the employment experiences of NHS staff who have disabilities.
The standard comprises 13 metrics based on workforce data, primarily drawn from the electronic staff record and the annual NHS staff survey.
At Newcastle Hospitals we have implemented a number of initiatives to improve a ‘sense of belonging’ and raise awareness of the issues faced by disabled colleagues and our WDES action plan identifies our current priorities.
A targeted approach is being taken to achieve improvements and accelerate progress towards the overall aim of having a workforce and workplace that is fair and equitable for all.
