Maternity survey

Maternity services across Newcastle Hospitals have been rated as 'better than' other services, when it comes to staff caring for mothers and babies.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) carries out regular independent surveys, seeking mothers’ feedback about various points of their journey with maternity services.

For the latest survey, questionnaires were sent out in February 2025, and responses were received from 127 people who received maternity care from our staff. Our maternity services rated in the top 20% of providers across England.

Antenatal support
  • ‘Better than expected’ in speaking with women in a way they could understand.
  • ‘Somewhat better than expected’ in treating people with respect and dignity.

Labour and birth
  • ‘Better’ than others at taking concerns seriously and doing everything we could to help manage pain during labour and birth.
  • ‘Better’ in how able patients felt they were to access help when they needed it.

Postnatal care

‘Better than expected’ for providing attention when needed following labour and birth.
