Independent surveys are carried out by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) every year, seeking views and feedback from patients who have stayed in NHS hospitals.
The information from these surveys helps us understand where patients believe we are doing well and how we should be focusing efforts to improve their experience.
The most recent inpatient survey took place between January and April 2025, looking at the experiences of people who were discharged from NHS hospitals in November 2024.
Responses were received from 513 Newcastle patients, focusing on the following areas:
- Admission to hospital
- The hospital and ward
- Doctors
- Nurses
- Care and treatment
- Operations and procedures
- Leaving hospital
- Kindness and compassion
- Respect and dignity
- Overall experience
Where we rated ‘better’ in the 2024 survey
Patients rated Newcastle Hospitals better than others for:
Doctors: having confidence in and trust in the doctors treating you
Leaving hospital: staff involving you in decisions about leaving hospital
Leaving hospital: staff telling you who to contact if you were worried about your condition or treatment after you left hospital
All other responses were rated as ‘about the same’ as other trusts surveyed.
