Dr Sophie Weatherhead is a consultant dermatologist at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary. Her particular interests are in phototherapy, cutaneous T cell lymphoma and inflammatory conditions such as psoriasis.
Sophie has previously completed a PhD in translational medicine investigating how UVB works to clear psoriasis. She is actively involved in clinical and translational research in her speciality areas, with projects based locally, nationally and internationally.
The current president of the British Photodermatology Group, Sophie is the regional lead for photodiagnostics undertaking investigations and treatment for sunlight sensitivity problems. Sophie has contributed to several British Association of Dermatologists treatment guidelines, and has written numerous patents information leaflets which are used nationally . She has helped develop the regional cutaneous T cell lymphoma service, and led this for over 10 years working closely with colleagues in haematology and oncology.
