Mr Yousef Yousef is the Head of the Department of Vascular Surgery at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the Newcastle Vascular Centre, Freeman Hospital.
He graduated in medicine from Al-Azhar University, Egypt, in 2010 and completed his early postgraduate surgical training at Al-Azhar University Teaching Hospitals. He subsequently moved to the United Kingdom, where he continued his specialist vascular training in the East Midlands. In 2023, he moved to Newcastle to undertake a Complex Aortic Fellowship at the Freeman Hospital and joined the consultant team later that year. He became Head of the Department of Vascular Surgery in 2026. His postgraduate qualifications include an MSc in Surgical Science, MRCS and FRCS in Vascular Surgery.
His principal clinical interests include complex aortic disease, with particular experience in complex open aortic surgery; carotid disease and stroke prevention; and lower-limb revascularisation and limb salvage, particularly for patients with chronic limb-threatening ischaemia and diabetic foot disease. He also has a strong clinical interest in venous disease, including the assessment and treatment of varicose veins.
As Head of Department, Mr Yousef is committed to developing safe, timely and patient-centred vascular services through multidisciplinary working, strong clinical leadership and continuous improvement. He has a particular interest in redesigning clinical pathways and using digital systems and high-quality data to improve access, reduce delays, strengthen coordination and support better patient outcomes.
Alongside his clinical and leadership responsibilities, he contributes to clinical research, service evaluation, quality improvement, and the education and training of medical students and surgical trainees.
