Dr Frier graduated with Honours in Medicine from the University of Edinburgh and completed specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology across tertiary and district general hospitals in the West and South East of Scotland. She subsequently undertook subspecialty training in Maternal and Fetal Medicine in Newcastle.
Dr Frier provides specialist care for women with complex and high-risk pregnancies across the North East of England. Her clinical interests include fetal cardiology and the early detection of fetal anomalies. She completed advanced training in fetal cardiology in Canada, with a particular focus on the early diagnosis of congenital heart disease. She is upscaling the regional fetal cardiac service by introducing early fetal echocardiography.
Alongside her clinical training, Dr Frier completed doctoral research on antenatal corticosteroids and was awarded an MD by the University of Edinburgh. Her research has focused on evaluating neonatal and childhood outcomes associated with antenatal corticosteroid exposure, and she has led international collaborative research in this field. She also led the development of a shared decision-making tool for antenatal corticosteroid use, co-produced with parents and endorsed by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Dr Frier is an invited national and international speaker on antenatal corticosteroids and perinatal care.
