Biography
Mr. Chad Chang is a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with specialist expertise in complex head and neck reconstruction, lymphoedema and lymphatic surgery, and supermicrosurgery. His primary clinical focus is reconstructive microsurgery, particularly in patients undergoing oncological treatment or those impacted by major trauma. He is a core member of the regional Skin Cancer and Head and Neck Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs) and provides specialist reconstructive support to the vascular malformations and diabetic foot MDTs.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Leeds and completed his specialist plastic surgery training across the North East of England. In 2023, he achieved Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery. He subsequently undertook two highly prestigious fellowships in Taiwan. The first, at China Medical University Hospital, focused on complex reconstructive microsurgery and lymphoedema surgery. The second, at Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, concentrated on lymphatic supermicrosurgery.
These fellowships consolidated his expertise in advanced lymphoedema procedures, including lymphaticovenous anastomosis (LVA), vascularised lymph node transfer (VLNT), the modified Charles procedure, and immediate lymphatic reconstruction (ILR) for the prevention of lymphoedema. He also managed complex head and neck reconstructions and revision surgery for advanced surgical complications. His training and clinical efforts were supported by the BAPRAS Travelling Bursary Grant and the PLASTA Reconstructive Fellowship Award.
Within his NHS practice, he is a core member of the regional Skin Cancer and Head and Neck Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs) and provides specialist reconstructive support to the vascular malformations and diabetic foot MDTs. Furthermore, he runs a dedicated monthly Indocyanine Green (ICG) lymphography clinic for the diagnostic evaluation and staging of lymphoedema.

Research
Mr Chang holds a Master of Research from the University of Huddersfield. His postgraduate thesis focused on Laser Doppler Flowmetry for cutaneous microcirculation monitoring. He maintains an active research portfolio, publishing in peer-reviewed journals and collaborating on international studies. He is an Associate Editor for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Global Open and acts as a peer reviewer for several other scientific publications. As an invited faculty member, he presents at various national and international conferences on his clinical and academic work.
