Mr Ahmed Hassanein M Fadulelmola is a dual fellowship-trained spinal surgeon with a specialist interest in primary spinal bone tumours. He joined one of the few UK centres providing this service, aiming to enhance patient outcomes and survival.
Ahmed completed a complex spinal surgery fellowship at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, followed by a two-month fellowship in Oxford and the prestigious STIG fellowship in Leeds. He was appointed as a Consultant Spinal Surgeon at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle, in August 2025. His clinical practice includes the management of primary spinal tumours, complex spinal deformities, degenerative conditions, spinal trauma, infection, and metastatic spinal cord compression (MSCC).
He graduated among the top students in Sudan, receiving four academic prizes and a scholarship to continue his education in London. Mr Hassanein holds two master’s degrees with distinction—from the University of London and Edge Hill University, Liverpool—and a diploma. He completed his higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in the North East Deanery.
An active academic, Ahmed has published over ten original research articles, presented 22 papers at national and international conferences, and authored two textbook chapters. He has contributed to two randomised controlled trials and serves as a reviewer for academic journals.
Committed to education and global collaboration, Ahmed co-founded the Sudanese Junior Doctors Association, supporting healthcare initiatives in Africa and helping international doctors transition into the NHS. He also leads the International Medical Graduates Support Programme.
Ahmed holds a Diploma and Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and has previously served as a faculty lecturer at the University of Khartoum. He is a faculty member of the Royal College of Surgeons and an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) instructor.
