We work across multiple settings including children’s outpatients, wards, at home and community settings.
The complications of excess weight (CEW) service provides care for children and young people over a period of 12-18 months dependent upon individual need.
We can help with a range of issues, including:
- Mental Health and Emotional difficulties
- Challenging behavior linked with food and mealtimes
- Physical symptoms and pain related to excess weight
- Social and family relationships
- Bullying
- Motivational difficulties in maintaining healthier lifestyles
Appointments with the psychologist can be in a number of locations including hospital wards, outpatient clinics, and schools. We also offer online video appointments using the platform Attend Anywhere.
Sessions may be individual, with family/carers or in groups depending on need. There are also informational materials and sessions available to support children and young people and families/carers during their journey.
Psychology will often work jointly with other members of the CEW team as part of the holistic support package.

Once your child is part of the children’s complications of excess weight (CEW) service you can be referred to psychology.
