Professor Guy MacGowan specialises in heart failure, heart transplantation, mechanical circulatory support and pulmonary hypertension.
He graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1986 and trained in Dublin and Johns Hopkins University and the University of Pittsburgh in the US.
He took up his current position at Newcastle Hospitals in 2004 and is also an Honorary Professor of Heart Failure at the Biosciences Institute of Newcastle University.
